Our comprehensive two-day professional development workshop designed for teachers, parents and community organizers to support existing youth garden programs with hands-on lessons, resources to educate the next generation of gardeners and environmental stewards.

  • Explore lessons in gardening and fresh from the garden recipes in The Cultivated Classroom.
  • Hands-on activities in the garden. Participants will harvest and prepare a garden to plate locally produced and sourced lunch.
  • Classroom program overview in the culinary arts room that support TEKS objectives in the core subjects.
  • Strategies and team building to support youth garden programs in resources and maintenance.
  • Workshop includes lunch and refreshments, digital access to Urban Harvest School Garden Guide, seeds, and more!
  • Teachers may earn up to 12 CPE’s.

PRESENTERS

Carol Burton is Urban Harvest’s Director of Education and has twenty years of experience gardening and growing food gardens in shared spaces, backyards and school gardens. Carol is a certified teacher and curriculum specialist in environmental education. She oversees education programming, presents and teaches professional development courses, including Edible Academy, to share her love of gardening, conservation, and growing good food.

Kellie Karavias is a 20 year veteran educator with a passion for growing smart and healthy scholars, was awarded an HEB Educator of Excellence Leadership recognition, for her life's work--growing scholars through gardening and edible education.

The Cultivated Classroom at Gregory-Lincoln Education Center is an affiliate community garden and the location of the award-winning Cultivated Classroom culinary program lead by founder, director, and teacher, Kellie Karavias. www.thecultivatedclassroom.com
